LATEST NEWS ON WEAVERS (as of Thursday August 6th)

The EA have been usless regarding weavers. their initial findings were spawning stress, low water levels, low oxygen levels & high temperature. samples were taken to check for toxins & every time we contacted the EA for an update on the toxicology they say they have not had any results yet?
Some members who did not know weavers had been closed have been fishing with reasonable catches so I am of the opinion that we can reopen the pond to fishing, with the provision of no keepnets & no groundbait.
i would like to thank the committee & members who managed to take time out to assist in this emergency, getting the boat, getting the pump, removing dead fish, aerating the pond etc

WEB EDITOR’S REPORT 2008 – 2009 ----------(presented at 2009 AGM)

The website has ticked over steadily this year with no dramatic changes but, nevertheless, an up to date presence on the web.
MATCH RESULTS:
These have been regularly up dated and members on the mailing list have been notified.  The reports are merely the statistics.  The occasional written report on a match would add to the interest.  This addition might even encourage more members to have a go.
DESIGN;
Pretty much as before with the addition of an attractive logo.  I am considering tidying up the navigation buttons on the site ( those little tatty fish at the top!)
PHOTOS:
I hope that any photos sent to me have made an appearance in the photo section ( if not please let me know)  Many of the photos are from committee members.  I am sure there are plenty more out there; please send so that the web can make you famous!!  Several people provide a short caption which adds to the interest.  Those that don’t risk my attempts to provide (a sometimes rude) addition.  I have tidied this section up recently and moved the photos of juniors to another section.
NEW JUNIOR SECTION:
At last I have made a start on this area.  It includes old photos of juniors plus several new ones.  This could be a useful area that might attract more juniors into the club.  Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.
LINKS:
A few have been added.  I have many more which need to be added when I tidy up this section.  From time to time people write to me requesting they add our website link to their websites.
MAILING LIST:
Those on the list are routinely informed of the latest changes.  If you would like to join the list, please email me -  d.towler@blueyonder.co.uk
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS?
I am happy to develop new sections but it will rely on other members providing me with the information.  Don’t worry about your style of writing or anything like this as I will try my best to present it in an acceptable way.  Just notes would be OK.

  • There is little on the site about the fishery itself.  We could have a section with photos of New Lake, Island Lake and Weavers.  Details and tips about fishing various pegs might help new and inexperienced members.  Sections on fishing techniques that work well at Ockley would also help.  Both these are common on many other sites.
  • A regular item on the news page about how the lakes are fishing at the moment and strategies to catch more fish could be included.  Anyone fishing them regularly could just drop me an email.
  • “official” reports from the committee/fisheries manager etc on changes and likely developments would be interesting and help keep the site “live”

Finally, above all else, please visit the site at www.ockleyanglingsociety.org.uk  We can have a website which just gives us a presence on the web or we can try to develop a site which informs and encourages members and potential members  to visit for interest and useful information.

The sad news of Ray Fisher

Dear members it is with great regret that we recently lost Ray Fisher, a long standing member and stalwart of the club. Ray died after a short illness this September. Many of you will remember Ray for his hard work around the lake and his running of the matches amongst many other things. The committee sent a card of condolence and wreath to Ray's family and donations were made to two local cancer charities. Ray was cremated and in line with his wishes his ashes were cast across the waters of the new lake. The committee have decided to erect a bench in Ray's memory and place it on the high ground on the far side of the new lake overlooking the water. A charity competition is also to be arranged for the 2009 match calendar.
